CAA medical requirements for all types of License.
Before taking a medical we advise you take a trail lesson to see if you are comfortable and to experience what flying requires of you.
After you have taken a trail lesson and have decided you want to continue with your flying you should obtain a medical certificate from the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority)This insures you that you are fit to fly at each particular level of your training.
It is beneficial that you obtain a medical certificate before you commit any amount of money to your training, as some flying schools do not refund any money place down for training.
There are two types of medicals in which you can apply for. The medical you chose depends on how far you wish to take your training.
PPL (Private Pilot License) only requires a class 2 medical. This examination is less detailed than the class 1 medical but is sufficient enough to allow you to fly at a PPL level.
If you go beyond the PPL level it is strongly advised you take the Class 1 medical. This is compared to the Class 2 medical a more detailed examination of your body. It will cost you slightly more but it will allow you to see if you are able to continue your training after the PPL level.
Please remember that when you do obtain a medical certificate from the CAA this does not mean that you are guaranteed for life you will be able to fly. You must keep fit and meet the criteria of the medical in order to keep the medical in which you hold.
If for any reason your level of health changes you must inform the CAA immediately.
